Abstract

The literature shows the difficulties organizations
retain professional staff. Typically, this context is
explained by the existence of a conflict of allegiance
between the profession and the organization. using
a sample of 329 occupational therapists, findings of
this research indicates in one hand that professional
commitment has a direct effect on the intention to
leave the profession, and in other hand, and an indirect effect through a complex process involving
sportsmanship, job search and intention to leave the
organization. Finally, the results also show that
organizational commitment has an indirect effect on
the intention to leave the organization via sportiness
and intention to search a job. The mediating effect
of behavioral processes related both to citizenship
and withdrawal cognitions on the relationship
between the targets of commitment and intentions to
leave is discussed in the light of the relevant literature.
