THE INFLUENCE OF THE COMPENSATION ON AUTONOMOUS MOTIVATION THROUGH PERCEIVED ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT AND ITS CONSEQUENCES ON JOB ENGAGEMENT AND JOB SATISFACTION
Abstract
The aim of this article, based on self-determination
theory, is to understand the influence of the level of
fixed pay on autonomous motivation and to examine
the consequences of autonomous motivation on job
engagement and job satisfaction. The mechanisms
involved in the relationship between fixed pay and
job satisfaction are: (1) perceived organizational
support (POS), (2) autonomous motivation and (3)
job engagement. The results obtained on a sample of
147 French employees support the hypothesis that
POS totally mediates the relationship between fixed
pay and autonomous motivation. In other words, fixed
pay positively influence motivation through POS. The
study also highlights that autonomous motivation
totally mediates the relationship between POS and
engagement, then that engagement totally mediates
the relationship between autonomous motivation and
job satisfaction.
