Abstract

This research is based on a literature review and proposes a theoretical framework to define the
specific competences of responsible entrepreneurs. It builds a matrix based on two criteria. The
former identifies three stages in the entrepreneurial process: (1) project build-up; (2) creation of the
organisation; (3) development of the enterprise. The latter identifies four dimensions of competences:
cognitive, relational (ou behavioral), functional (or operational) and meta-competences. The article
synthesises various elements of knowledge borrowed from several disciplinary fields in order to
interrelate them in a dynamic perspective centred on responsible entrepreneurs. It identifies 12
clusters of competences (depending on the stage of the entrepreneurial process) which are likely to
help ethically-driven entrepreneurs to implement and carry out their projects.
