Abstract

The article aims to understand the conditions of acceptance and appropriation of ISO 26000 within a
company. Based on the emergence process of organizational learning (Crossan et al., 1999), interpretation, integration and institutionalization of the ISO 26000 expected by the employees of an ISE / SMEs
are analyzed. It is observed that perceived constraints are the need to understand and adapt the universal standard to the context and specificities of a medium size company, the cost and time required
to enforce it, and the complexity of the standard. But these constraints are overwhelmed by transcendental dimension of the project underpinned by the standard and its ability to structure and harmonize
the actions of the company already oriented towards environmental and social responsibility.
