Abstract

The combination of the title and subtitle of the major work of E Ostrom’s major work allows two alternative interpretations distinguishing ‘market economies’ and ‘organizational economies’. The French translation of the title of the book (Governance of the commons: For a new resource approach) only focuses on the first dimension. It does not reflect allow to be attentive to the presence of three of the five key words of the original title entitled: ‘Collective Action’, ‘Evolution’ and ‘Institution’. By offering an alternative equally admissible translation, i.e. “The evolution of the governance of collective action systems such as ‘the commons’,” cannot we quite significantly enrich our conceptions of governance, by processes rather than by products?
