Abstract

This paper aims at discussing corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices in logging companies in the Congo basin. A study of five cases concerning five companies, two are european, two asiatic and one cameroonese reveals that CSR practices in those companies are much more characterized by their conformism to the regulations at both domestic and international level, rather than by strong voluntary initiatives. The ongoing conformism make those practices ineffective inasmuch as those regulations are more advantageous to the business community but, to the detriment of local populations who are directly affected by the logging.
