Abstract

The methodology developed by Elinor Ostrom seems relevant to the problems of governance of the
commons. It holds, through two case studies in the Alpine regions of Switzerland: Törbel grassland
and forest management (example cited by E.O) and irrigation consortages (called “Bisses”).
Moreover, questions have arisen regarding extensions and relations with public authorities, “external” activities to affected communities as well as issues of scale.
