Abstract

Green IT concept is used to show the environmental dimension of ICTs. The article studies the way IT
manufacturers define Green IT. In order to understand how IT manufacturers integrate environmental
issues in their strategies, this exploratory research uses the results of a documents’ analysis and a
qualitative investigation focusing on the positions of IT manufacturers regarding Green IT. Several
frameworks allow assessing in detail the types of behaviour at stake. Based on the joint mobilization
of these frameworks, the results show that Green IT remains defined in a technical and regulatory
perspective, not in terms of use and social issues.
