Abstract

This paper analyses how sustainable development is defined through action and reaction between firms and
its stakeholders which belongs to a same economic sector. I focus on how activists, who are against GMO
diffusion, participate in using force to the process of definition of sustainable agriculture. Through content
analysis of secondary data, I show that there are two opposed definitions of sustainable agriculture at the origin of the conflict on GMO, and that each actor mobilizes the sustainable agriculture concept to justify its
position.
