Abstract

A pay–for–performance (P4P) initiative is launched in 2012 for French hospitals. The research group COMPAQ-Hpst has been mandated to develop the methodology of this experiment. Previous P4P programs in other countries have been reviewed, and their strengths and weaknesses have been analyzed. Under the collaboration with the French Ministry of Health (DGOS), the French National Authority for Health (HAS), and the different hospitals’federations, a P4P program adapted to the French context has been proposed. This article presents the lessons taken from P4P programs abroad, and how they have been or not adopted for the French design.
