Armand Hatchuel has formulated a theory of collective action that has had considerable success among management researchers because it provides a powerful identity for management science. The necessary but not sufficient condition of this theoretical wager is the exit from the metaphysics of action. We examine this attempt by comparing the theory of collective action with the work of the greatest metaphysician of the twentieth century, Martin Heidegger.
