Abstract

While workplace friendships are generally positively associated with well-being at work, our research aims to better understand the ambivalent influence of these relationships. Based on a qualitative study (twenty comprehensive interviews conducted with managers), we identify different social dynamics that explain the positive and negative influence of workplace friendships on well-being at work. Our research thus aims to contribute to both the literature on the emergence of well-being at work and the studies of the effects of workplace friendships.
