Successfully implementing a consilience approach to combat medical deserts Aline

Medical deserts are one of the challenges facing the French healthcare system today. While this situation is a source of social and political tension, exacerbating health inequalities and fuelling debates on equity, social justice and the right to health, it also appears paradoxical, particularly in areas where there are numerous training structures for healthcare professionals, starting with universities. This is the case in the Yvelines department in the Ile-de-France region. If answers are to be found, in this paper we question the role of the University in the attractiveness of the region for the installation of healthcare professionals, and we seek to identify the success factors for the implementation of a consilience approach within the University, in an attempt to find solutions to medical deserts. We are seeking to understand what would be the levers of success for the implementation of a consilience approach within the University around the issue of medical deserts? We are therefore carrying out an exploratory case study at the within the University of
Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines in the Ile-de-France region, along with with research teams in management within LAREQUOI Laboratory, and in public health within the UFR Simone Veil-Santé and its SPOT department (Santé publique, prévention, observation, territoire), who worked together to find innovative solutions to the problem of medical deserts in the Yvelines region. We describe the process of implementing a consilience approach to complex issues in the healthcare field.
