Keywords:

Purpose: To study to what extent physical characteristics such as height, body size and physical appearance of doctors are correlated with the trust accorded by their patients to their judgment, the degree to which they comply with medical treatment and their subjective assessment of their competence. Method: Questionnaire survey of 1,161 young adults (mean age = 20.1 years). Results: Patients confidence in their doctor, patients adherence to treatment and skills that they attribute to their doctor are positively correlated with his/her size and physical appearance, but negatively with age and body size.
