Abstract

This short essay aims first at challenging the endemic bad phrasing of the question of the
“Mediterranean Arab Muslim world”. Second, it proposes a reflection on the nature of the religious phenomenon, including the Sharia, and its use to explain the future of the Muslim
world. Third, it underlies the fact that speaking in terms of revolution and illusion is advantageous only if one is engaged in an advocacy enterprise of producing a global master-narrative which seeks to impose a specific reading of history, instead of describing what history
offers to see.
