PHILOSOPHY OF A POST-FUNDAMENTALIST ISLAM

Abstract

Hassan Hanafi understands Islamic fundamentalism as a historical reaction to particular circumstances. He thus sees political Islam not as a choice but as the only available refuge. That
is why the Egyptian intellectual calls for a post-fundamentalist alternative. The post-funda mentalist Islam is a progressive, rational, historical and human vision, actually an endogenous
one, based on the principles of the Sharia. It is in the creation of this alternative, derived from
