Abstract

Iran’s regional trade, particularly with the United Arab Emirates and
Qatar, has become a central element in Iranian strategy to resist to American
sanctions. Indeed, United States sanctions are more difficult to apply in
the region (local companies having few relations with the US market).
However, the United Arab Emirates, which is an important regional partner
of Iran, applies with great rigor US sanctions. And trade between Iran and
Qatar remains, despite the embargo imposed by Saudi Arabia on Qatar, at
a relatively low level.
