Abstract

As Mexico is at the very beginning of the common history between
two worlds the « Old Europe » and the « New World », it is particularly
relevant to raise here in Guadalajara in a comparative perspective the
issue of life and freedom faced to the development of biosciences.
Regarding Europe, the present lifescience revolution was indeed
facilitated both by the Enlightment of the XVIIIth century and by the
Industrial Revolution of the XIXth century. But today, we may fear that
the political and cultural heritage of those centuries would be challenged
by a Techno-Scientific Revolution and its socio-political
consequences. The real power is no more in institutions controlled by the
people and the nations lack capacity to solve alone probems that have
become global.
