Abstract

Marine submersion is a major risk for the French Atlantic coast, particularly for its island territories such as the Isle of Oléron. Therefore, the management of this risk is a key issue for local authorities (municipalities and town community). A good mana-gement of this risk is based on the understanding of the principles of trade-off between occupant safety, attractiveness of the island, environmental valuation, and costs minimization and population satisfaction. This trade-off can be difficult to understand and establish for the decision-makers or for the population. SPRITE is a participatory multi-agent simulation tool aiming to meet this challenge. By placing the player in the role of policy maker, it allows him to realize the need for a balanced policy. SPRITE pro-vides knowledge to the player in order the decision-makers to make informed risk decisions and the population to understand the issues of the territory management policy.
