Abstract

In the field of civil engineering, concrete water storage tanks areconsidered hydraulic arts structures occupying a special placeamong the constructions. In reality, these tanks, subjected toharsh natural conditions and to hydrodynamic loads, age anddeteriorate. In order to predict the degradation and aging levelthat can occur in these structures, the concept of vulnerability tonatural hazards, based on the vulnerability index IVassessmentis used. However, a tank of a park can have several vulnerabilityindexes during its life cycle. Predicting the state of the agingbehavior of these structures, in their life cycle, is an essentialelement of decision aid about strategic, technical and economicchoices to be made in order to provide exploitation continuity ofthese structures. In the context of our research, we are interestedin the numerical modeling of the time evolution of the tankvulnerability index IV, which is known in some points, corresponding to its different ages (t) of its investigation. The aimis to build an approximate function IV(t) which will translate thevulnerability evolution at any time during its life cycle. So, twonumerical methods are used: finite element approximation andexponential approach. This modeling has been applied to a parkof tanks in Tizi-Ouzou (Algeria), and the results weresatisfactory.
