Abstract

The soil studied is sediment from the dredging of the dam ofMerdja Sidi Abed in Algeria. This dam is a lake fed from ariver by a pumping station; it is the seat of a significantsiltation. Maintaining the capacity of the reservoir passesthrough the extraction of sediments deposited. In this work,we are interested in re-usability of these materials in roadengineering (layer shape). At first, a geotechnical andmineralogical characterization (particle size analysis Laser,Atterberg limits, blue value and organic matter content..) ofthe material is performed. It highlights in particular thepresence of the swelling clay by shrinkage and swelling byimmersing tests. Finally, we studied the possibility of acement treatment to improve geotechnical and mechanicalcharacteristics of the material. Measurements ofcompressive strength and tensile strength are produced byvarying the water content in order to evaluate the influenceof this latter on this strength. Indeed, the results show asignificant change in geotechnical and mechanicalcharacteristics
