STRUCTURAL LESSONS FROM THE POST-SISMIC EXPERIENCE RETURN FOR AFPS FRIENDSHIP, AQUILA

Abstract

Following the L’Aquila earthquake in 2009, AFPS sent a missionto investigate the effect of this earthquake. It could be observedthat most of the damaged buildings were generally irregular inplan and/or in elevation and that their design details were notappropriate to take into account the seismic risk. This articlepresents the main observations of this mission regarding thestructural behaviour of typical buildings, and an investigation ofthe advantage of a capacity design analysis.
