New urban producers, new urban agriculture? Bolivian migrants and the “bolivianization” of Buenos Aires’ vegetable supply

urban agricultureAbstract
In Buenos Aires, peri-urban market gardening is characterized by the presence of migrants of Bolivian origin. This article examines the role of these origins in the transformation of agricultural lands. We go beyond the idea of rupture evoked by traditional actors in order to show that there is an overlap between the innovative dynamics initiated by traditional actors and relayed by Bolivians, who have modernized market gardening, and other innovative dynamics, initiated by Bolivian migrants, giving it the appearance of a small family production, although not necessarily seen as peasant.
