Résumé

It is broadly recognized that diseases and health problems are linked not onlyto biological aspects but to social phenomena as well. These social determinants of health1, are more critical in disadvantaged populations (WHO, 2003; Marmot, 2005) since social context of scarcity is more acute. Direct work with communi-ties in vulnerability situations makes it possible to see the convergence and therelation of causality in these determinants with several health issues; additionally, it leads to understand how decisive these determinants are in the process of dis-eases transmission and populations ’access to health programs, influencing thepossible achievement of a good health-related quality of life2
