It further recognizes five periods from the 50’s to the beginning of this century, each covering more or less a decade. The first is one of predominant philosophical reflection on human rights and peace. The second is marked by a will to affirm fundamental rights such as the right to education. The third expands on the standard-setting action of UNESCO. The fourth period is characterized by an emphasis on the multidisciplinary approach to human rights and peace. The fifth is marked by a resolute affirmation of the standard-setting role of UNESCO in the field of human rights.
