Abstract

With the development of modern science and the prevailing invasion oftechnology in our daily life, the hospital has difficulties covering human valuesthat once characterized it. Established during the Middle Age, the hospital was indeed the place parexcellence of hospitality, where, through the reception of pilgrims and caring forthe poors, poured out the ontological human needs of give and receive. But withthe emergence of science and nonstop technic revolution of the society, thesevalues seems to be brought down to the bottom of the priority list, and hospitalshas become such an environment favoring more performance than humanism. This brief study is to explore the relationship between hospital and hospitality, both on linguistic/ semantic and practical level. From ancient greece to present day, through the western Middle Ages. It is emphasized the inseparabilityof these two terms (hospital and hospitality), and show that the urgency today forhospitals is to reconnect with his human values that once prevailed
