Abstract

The Women and Telemedicine global network (WeTelemed) has been initiated inapril 2012, with the vision to constitute a Millennia2015 powerful demonstration ofwomen empowerment in the arena of telemedicine through digital solidarity andgender equity. The overall objective is to stimulate more women to use advancedtechnologies and telemedicine, combined with innovative integrated collaborativeleadership programs. The article describes the recent history of the network, itsgenesis and creation, illustrated by a selection of telemedicine initiatives conductedby women in developing countries with the ambition to reach isolated communities
