If there is a fad for French jurists, it is that of the definition and the status of the embryo. Widely commented on and analyzed, the provisions of bioethics laws from their first adoption in 1994 to the latest proposals1, have shown the great difficulty of giving a legal qualification to the embryo and embryonic stem cells and also their lean a statute 2. The legal problems posed by this hesitation essentially involve instability for both researchers and healthcare professionals over what they can and cannot do when it comes to the embryo and its cells.
