Abstract

This article retraces the design of the first Management museum in France , called Dauphine Musée du Management which was a project initiated by the Cercle de l’Innovation at Université Paris Dauphine-PSL. It explores the challenges and issues of putting an activity that is largely made up of
intangibles into a museum. To do so, the article firstly revisits the definition of management objects, their historicity and their legitimacy to be exhibited when viewed from the perspective of contemporary museology. The Dauphine Musée de Management was inspired by the practices of history museums, science and technology museums and business museums. It chose to highlight objects such as time clocks, organization charts and Gantt diagrams that are emblematic of management and presented them in a format organized around themes such as responsibility, control and
rationalization. The article highlights the polysemic and narrative nature of the objects exhibited. The museum invites critical reflection on the evolution and implications of managerial practices. It aims to be a space for education, debate, emancipation and research, offering a participatory and
immersive experience to visitors. Finally, the article questions the role of the museum in understanding and debating management, thus proposing a museography that combines historical and critical perspectives on managerial practices.
