Abstract

This research will develop different levels of understanding of the spirit of “culture” in organization and confront them. Two forms of culture seem to coexist. “Management culture”, a concept from a professional structuralist paradigm, is viewed by management and consultants as deterministic. Used in a functionalist goal as a tool for the performance of the organization, it will be treated as regulatory control.”Culture in Action”, scientific approach to social constructionist culture, is the result of experience and collective action. Dynamic, subconscious, symbolic and regulatory, it is done and undone through the interactions of players in the organization. It will be considered as the cause of internal regulation. These cultures are analyzed by putting in perspective professional methodologies conducted for two international companies in a situation of reorganization, to a meta-methodology with theories of ethnomethodology, social regulation and communicational approaches organization. Double interactionist motion between these cultures encourages one and the other, to evolve from individual action, to collective action, for the realization of “organizational work”.
