Abstract

In this article, we discuss the dual diagnoses in forensic psychiatry. We begin with an overview of the relationship between “classic” mental disorders, substance use disorders and delinquency. The clinical, criminological and legal issues inherent to
the assessment of addictive comorbidities are then highlighted and discussed, based on empirical data from the literature. Finally, issues more directly related to forensic psychiatric expertise are addressed, as well as the various therapeutic strategies to be favored (organization of care, psychopharmacological aspects, and psychosocial interventions).
