Abstract

This article studies the scenographic processes of industrial objects, commercial or heritage exhibitions that have encouraged the interest of business enterprises in design and the development of design collections within French museums. This study traces the appearance of industrial art museums in the 19th century and the role of industrial and universal exhibitions in the display of industrial objects. A century later, while design was integrated into specialised museums in Europe, often linked to companies, in France it joined museum collections and acquired the status of an artistic object in contemporary art museums.
