Abstract

Margaret Cavendish is considered to be the first authoress of a science-fiction novel – The
Blazing World (1666). In this novel, she creates a feminine-feminist world that resonates
strongly with contemporary ideas of feminism in organization studies. Our article aims to show
how this novel describes a feminist utopian society made up of two critical dimensions: work
identity and struggles on the one hand and feminist and/or feminine power on the other hand.
Our conclusion leverages the novel to ask questions about the potential characteristics of a
feminist firm and the necessary conditions for such a firm to exist.
