Abstract

Introduction: The objective of this study was to describe
the quality criteria of disability certificates issued by doctors to Abidjan to contribute to the improvement of these
documents.
Material and methods: It was a descriptive retrospective
study of 8 years (2007-2014) concerning the records of
court proceedings for assault and battery was the subject
of a court decision and each containing a medical certificate.
Results and discussion: The majority of disability certificates had been issued by general practitioners (53.4%).
Chronological headings were respected but not enough
informed. The ITT determined in 98.3% of the victims
used 94.9% of the cases an incorrect name with in the
foreground, the name “Temporary total disability” in the
civil law sense (65.5%) instead of the correct “inability
total working” name in the Ivorian penal Code (5.1%).
Conclusion: Further training of doctors will improve the
quality of medical incapacity certificates issued by doctors
in Côte d’Ivoire.
