The metropolis of Miami: Growth dynamics and regional and global projections

Abstract

In a little more than a century, Miami has become an essential crossroads for trade links in the Americas. This article aims to analyze this position, which has acquired more and more strength from the 1980s onward. Miami International Airport (MIA) and the Port of Miami are the main assets of this solid expansion, which extends to trade, wholesale and retail distribution, the hospitality and tourism sector, the financial sector, and a large number of associated services. The city still suffers from some weaknesses, but the future of Miami includes strong expansion into the Caribbean, Latin America, and elsewhere.
