Abstract

The objective of this article is to analyse the environmental issues in French Guiana in relation to gold mining. The methodology is based on
a literature review and four field studies carried out over the last 5 years (2017-2022). The text demonstrates that gold mines are present throughout
the region and that soil erosion and, even more so, the use of mercury, are important environmental issues in this activity.
