Abstract

Latin America and France have a unique relationship, made up of mirrored perceptions, mimicry and affectivity. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, refocused on Europe, France moved away while globalisation changed the rules of the game of the relationship, with the democratisation of the United States, the extension of the free market, the expansion of the European Union, and the emergence of new countries. After 2003 and the war in Iraq, international relations are being recomposed, the centres of power are multiplying, and global issues are taking over the agenda. Today, after the pandemic, in the context of systemic disruptions and war on European soil, and while the China-US confrontation is taking shape, it is urgent that a renewed partnership be established between Latin America and Europe, since the parallels between the two groups are so notable.
