Mexico: The war against the drug cartels

Abstract

What can be said about the war against the drug cartels that was started in Mexico at the beginning of 2007? Why has President Felipe Calderón undertaken what he has called a “war” against organized crime? Have the actions been implemented rationally, and have they been efficient according to the stated objectives? Finally, can we see any changes in the policies against organized crime implemented by the president? These are the questions that arise from a reading of the current Mexican reality.
