The normalization of relations between the United States and Cuba: Impacts on the Cuban community in Miami
Keywords:
normalizationAbstract
The process of normalization of relations undertaken between the United States and Cuba breaks with more than fifty years of hostility between the two countries. Opposition to the Cuban government was the basis of the political action of Miami’s Cuban community. This community of exiles has shaken the social, economic, and political balance of Miami-Dade County, all while contributing to its development into a major international metropolis. The new policy toward Cuba risks calling into question the influence of Miami’s Cuban community at the national level, as well as the dominance of the Republican Party in Florida, all while modifying the relations between Miami’s different ethnic groups.
