Abstract

If all medical practitioners and scientists agreed that
NaCl has a negative impact on hypertension and increases
the risk of cardiovascular diseases, many lively
controversies are concerning the origin of the
hypertensive effect. During many years this
antihypertensive effect was only assigned to sodium ion
but many recent published works suggest that Chlorid ion
may have an important action. This will open an
alternative way to the drastic reduction of NaCl intake
that patients do not comply with or its substitution by
potassium salts which taste is questionable, by proposing
to the patients a moderate consumption of NaCl
associated to a substance like Chitosan which may block
the mechanism used by the Chlorid ion increases blood
pressure.
