Abstract

The CREST study included 2502 patients. 1321 were
symptomatic and 1181 were asymptomatic. The
patients were treated in 117 centers. The criteria for
selection of operators were severe since
only half of angioplasticists applying for
the CREST study was retained, which guarantees a good
technical quality.
The criteria for evaluating the results were, as
in all previous studies, mortality and
neurological morbidity at 30 days, to which was added
one criterion: myocardial infarctions defined by a
doubling of creatinine kinase or troponin levels
in relation to the preoperative period, associated with either
symptoms suggestive of angina pectoris, either
or an ST segment depression of more than 1 mm in
at least two leads.
