An introduction to Set Theory: The essential concepts of Allen Forte's and David Lewin's theories

Abstract

The present paper is an introduction to the theoretical concepts at the base of Set-Theory, of which it assumes no previous knowledge. A brief survey of their analytical applica­tions is given, with the main purpose of showing the diversity of their nature. These par­ticularly concem the "classical" approach of Allen Forte and the ''transformational" one of David Lewin.
