Notes on the electronics in a recent opera: K… by Philippe Manoury

Abstract

Philippe Manoury developed an original and personal approach to electronics, smoothly
integrating real-time technologic devices with the instruments of the orchestra. The software
used is jMax, advocated by the Ircam, integrating patches, fragments of programs
dealing each with a specific task in constant dialogue with the external world. The
devices shortly described in this note include sampling, the virtual orchestra, real-time
treatments and transformations, rotating loudspeakers, the virtual choir, and spatialisation.
