Questioning in many ways the role of man, of speech and of song in the creation,
Orfeo occupies a central position in the European culture of the early 17th century.
This mythological figure nevertheless experiences notable differences of
interpretation: on the literary as well as musical plane, the Orfeo’s given in Mantua
(1607) and Paris (1647) testify to an artistic diversity that can be elucidated through
a questioning of the context of their creation.
