In the United States after the War (c. 1945 - 1995), a concerted intellectual effort in the fields of operations research, management science, systems thinking, and artificial intelligence research was made to create a “post-scientific” way of thinking suited to the then emergent
computer-mediated “knowledge society”. This intellectual ecology would profoundly reshape the traditional relationship between business and design in the US. Design was transformed into a mode of thinking integrated with enterprise. The idea of design was used to justify the
post-industrial economy of innovation.
