On 22 May 2014, the National Consultative
Commission of Human Rights (CNCDH) issued on its
own initiative an opinion on the draft law strengthening
the fight against prostitution system, currently under discussion in Parliament. If the Commission approves the
intention of the legislator to protect prostitutes through
certain accompanying measures and access measures to
rights, it also condemns restrictions imposed on them,
directly or not, by the draft law, particularly through the
criminalization of the use of prostitution. The opinion of
the CNCDH and ensuing recommendations have merit
to attract legislator’s attention both on shortcomings of
the text as it stands, but also on the consequences it could
have in the future on the legal, health and social situation of prostitutes.
