Abstract

Pulmonary embolism (PE) is one of the main causes of maternal mortality in developed
countries. We report two cases of, 27 and 38 years old, pregnant women, autopsied at the
Institute of Forensic Medicine of Lyon in the context of a sudden death. The diagnosis of
massive pulmonary embolism, identified in both cases, was confirmed by histological examination. We did not detect deep venous thrombosis in the lower members in both cases.
