Abstract

Personalized medicine (PM) is much more than a major
advance in genomics or a new medical paradigm. By
modifying our explanatory models of disease, mobilizing
several social institutions and requiring the active participation of citizens and the state, MP induces fundamental changes in our perceptions, practices and behaviors for
controlling disease and maintaining health conditions.
To ensure health policies and modes of clinical, ethical
and social regulations that are sustainable, we must first:
a) agree on the meaning we want to give to PM and b)
conceive of it as a broad social project.
