Abstract

A study of the evolution of the management by law of the
harm done to victims of an industrial accident or an
occupational disease shows that workers have come a long
way before gaining access to compensation for physical
harm that resembles what other citizens get.
The complicated relationship of French work law to the
protection of an individual's physical and mental integrity, and its inability to think of human beings in their
globality, rests on philosophical foundations and legal
mechanisms that hinder the evolution towards integral
compensation
