Abstract

The revision by UNESCO of the 1974 Recommendation on the Status of the Scientific Researcher is an
opportunity for everyone to reflect on what science and
its direct actors are bringing to the profound transformations that are affecting our societies.
Now intimately linked to the rise and integration of
new techniques in the daily and fundamental of human
activity and its environmental components, science is no
longer merely the place of advancement of knowledge
animated by scientists respected. It is a challenge for
the reconstruction of powers over man and the world,
an issue that sometimes goes beyond researchers who
have become too technical and who seek to regain a
social position that guarantees them both the freedom
to act reasonably and the capacity to add an enlightened
conscience to that of the secular citizen.
